In the early hours of June 24, 2022, Gret Glyer, 32, was shot to death while he slept in his home on Bolton Village Court in Fairfax, Virginia. His wife, Heather Glyer, awoke to a loud noise and placed a 911 call just before 3 a.m., reporting she believed her husband had been shot. Glyer was found deceased from multiple gunshot wounds; court documents later state he was shot 10 times. The couple’s two young children were in the house but were unharmed. The slaying was the first homicide in the city of Fairfax in over a decade.

Investigators focused on an acquaintance of the family. Five days after the killing, June 29, police arrested 33-year-old Joshua Danehower of Arlington at Dulles International Airport; he was employed there. Authorities say Danehower was an ex-boyfriend of Heather Glyer and had reportedly been trying to reconnect with her. Bullet casing analysis and a tip reportedly led detectives to him. He was charged with second-degree murder and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony and later indicted on felony murder and firearm charges.
