Miles Tracey Hall, 52, was shot and killed on the evening of May 15, 2022, in a parking lot on Tavern Way in Triangle, Virginia. Officers arrived about 9 p.m. and found Hall with a gunshot wound; despite immediate medical aid he was pronounced dead at the scene. Witnesses reported hearing gunshots and seeing an SUV speed away afterward.

Investigators say the dispute that led to the shooting involved money raised for the funeral and childcare of Hall’s daughter, who had recently died. Prosecutors charged Devlon Crew-Hamilton after an investigation concluded he went to Hall’s residence to confront him about the missing funds and fatally shot Hall in the face. A jury convicted Crew-Hamilton of murder in September 2023; the family said the verdict provided a measure of closure.
