Keesean Rashad Carr was 22 when he was brought to Southampton Memorial Hospital with a gunshot wound in the early morning hours of April 17, 2022, in Franklin, Virginia. Despite medical efforts, he died of his injuries. Friends and family held a candlelight vigil on Main Street and a homegoing service at Apostolic Faith Church of God; fundraising was started to help his family and his newborn daughter.
Authorities say 32-year-old Alexander Mark Maddox of Franklin turned himself in, admitted involvement in the shooting and was arrested. He was charged with second-degree murder, use of a firearm during the commission of a felony, unlawful possession of a controlled substance while possessing a firearm, and distribution of a controlled substance, and was held without bond at the Western Tidewater Regional Jail. Reports do not include detailed circumstances of the shooting.
