On a sidewalk in Alexandria, Virginia, 25-year-old Elijah Keith Williams was found unresponsive in the bushes in the 4500 block of Raleigh Avenue around 6:50 a.m. on March 23, 2022, and was pronounced dead at the scene. The medical examiner ruled his death a homicide from upper body trauma. It was the city’s first homicide that year.
More than a year later authorities arrested 28-year-old Dontae LaShawn Drumgold of Prince William County. Police charged Drumgold with first-degree murder and the use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, saying Drumgold was Williams’ roommate and that a dispute over rent — Williams’ refusal to cover Drumgold’s portion and eviction proceedings — provided the motive. Investigators presented text messages and entries from Drumgold’s personal journal describing fantasies about shooting someone and not getting caught, and evidence that Drumgold knew Williams’ routine and waited for him the morning he left for work.
Does anyone have information about Elijah’s life in Alexandria or about the Raleigh Avenue area that could help clarify what happened that morning?
