On the morning of Saturday, December 18, 2021, 28-year-old Dequan Calvin Thomas was fatally shot in the Meadows Mobile Home Park in Spotsylvania County, Virginia. Deputies were called to the 6600 block of Wagon Drive around 2 a.m. after a 911 report of a shooting. Thomas was found with a gunshot wound to his upper body and was pronounced dead at the scene despite first responders’ efforts.
The shooter was identified as Thomas’s 37-year-old roommate, Terrence Oliver Smith. Smith told investigators he believed someone was breaking into the home and, fearing for his safety, fired multiple shots through a door; Thomas was struck through that door. After an investigation and consultation with the Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office, Smith was arrested and charged with second-degree murder, possession of a firearm after a felony conviction, possession of a stolen firearm, discharging a firearm from a dwelling causing death, and using a firearm in the commission of a felony. The weapon was reportedly stolen from Stafford County in May 2021.
Does anyone have information about Thomas, the layout of the mobile home, or what happened that night?
