A violent confrontation outside the Allure nightclub in Virginia Beach ended with two cousins dead on October 28, 2021. William Moore, 38, and his cousin Joseph Moore were shot in the nightclub parking lot after an earlier dispute between William and another man, Trayvon McCoy. Witnesses and surveillance footage show McCoy retrieving a rifle from his car, confronting William, and firing at close range, striking William in the chest. Joseph was shot in the back while trying to flee. Bystanders attempted first aid but both cousins died at the scene.

Police arrested Trayvon McCoy at a nearby hotel the next day. He admitted to shooting both men and claimed self-defense, but later testimony and video evidence indicated he did not see any weapons on the victims and pointed to an alternative — that he could have left the scene instead of shooting. In September 2023 a jury convicted McCoy of aggravated murder, first-degree murder, and two counts of using a firearm in the commission of a felony; he was sentenced to life without parole plus 43 years.
