David Anthony McCain was 30 when he was found unresponsive in his vehicle in the Royal Farms parking lot in Onley, Virginia, in the late hours of Tuesday, June 15, 2021. Accomack County deputies were called around 11:11 p.m. reporting an assault and a man in cardiac arrest; McCain was pronounced dead at the scene and his body taken to the Norfolk Medical Examiner’s Office for examination.

Investigators identified 19-year-old Xzaviyor Snead of Painter, Virginia, as a suspect and obtained warrants charging him with first-degree murder and the use of a firearm in the commission of a felony. The Eastern Shore Drug Task Force and the Virginia State Police assisted the Accomack County Sheriff’s Office in the probe.

Reports say the prosecution’s case relied on video footage, witness testimony, and gunpowder residue found on Snead’s hands, alleging Snead approached McCain’s vehicle and shot him twice in the head at close range. The defense questioned the video clarity and witness credibility.
