On June 3, 2021, 20-year-old Tyriek Davon Powell was fatally wounded in a shooting in the 3300 block of Fall Hill Avenue in Fredericksburg, Virginia. The shooting occurred near a barbershop and a grocery store; Powell was taken to Mary Washington Hospital, where he died. Police responded to a 911 call saying a man had shot two people.
Investigators say Powell and 28-year-old Arturo Barnes exchanged gunfire. Barnes, who also sought treatment for gunshot wounds, was arrested and charged with second-degree murder, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, shooting a firearm in a public place, two counts of shooting into an occupied building, two counts of destruction of property, and reckless handling of a firearm; he was held without bond. Powell, known as Riek, had hoped to study game design and was remembered by family as protective and talented.
If anyone saw the shooting or knew Powell’s movements that afternoon, please share what you know.
