Ignatius R. Gregory Sr., 62, disappeared on May 7, 1989, after the snow machine he was riding went through the ice on the Yukon River south of Holy Cross, Alaska. He was an experienced outdoorsman and was traveling across the still-frozen river when the ice gave way, plunging him and his vehicle into the water. It is unclear whether anyone witnessed the incident or if he was traveling alone.
The Alaska State Troopers investigated, but details about search efforts, weather and ice conditions that day, and how the ice failed are sparse. His disappearance has remained unresolved for decades and left his family and community without closure. If anyone has memories of Ignatius Gregory Sr., saw activity on the Yukon River around May 7, 1989, or has information about recovery efforts in that area, please come forward.
