Rolando Bynum, 47, was shot and killed shortly before 8 p.m. on November 22, 2020, outside the Hi-Lo convenience store in the 1400 block of South Street in Franklin, Virginia. Officers arriving after reports of shots fired found Bynum with multiple gunshot wounds; he died at the scene.Bynum’s death prompted a multi-agency investigation.

The Franklin Police Department worked with the Isle of Wight Sheriff’s Office, the Southampton County Sheriff’s Office, the Virginia State Police, and the Southampton County Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office. Investigators identified a suspect quickly and arrested 25-year-old Keonte Flythe of Franklin.

Flythe was charged with first-degree murder and the use of a firearm in the commission of a felony and was held without bond at Western Tidewater Regional Jail.If anyone witnessed the shooting that night or has information about Bynum’s movements before he was killed, please come forward with what was seen or known.
