Mark Anthony Johnson Jr., 35, was killed just after midnight on November 6, 2020, when gunfire struck on the 100 block of Hickok Circle in Fredericksburg, Virginia. Police were dispatched after a shots-fired call around 12:19 a.m.; officers found him lying in the street with multiple gunshot wounds. He was taken to a nearby hospital and did not survive.

Officers sealed the block and conducted an early search that included a police K-9 track. Investigators from the start described the death as a homicide involving multiple suspects and urged anyone with information about what happened or what led up to it to come forward. On November 24, 2020, authorities announced the arrest of Isaiah Landry, 18, of Fredericksburg, who was charged with first-degree murder and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony; police continued to say the investigation was ongoing as they worked to account for others involved.
