On September 24, 2020, a dispute over a teenage basketball game on Apple Avenue in Hampton, Virginia, escalated into deadly gun violence. Fifty-year-old Lois Bailey and her 25-year-old son Maurice Bailey were fatally shot after a confrontation involving the sons of the Baileys and Torrey R. Whitlow. Lois had earlier broken up an initial fight, and was shot twice when she intervened again. Maurice was shot in the head while already wounded, and another son, Tyrell Bailey, suffered a graze wound to the head but survived.

Whitlow, then 35, fled the scene in a red pickup truck. Warrants were issued charging him with two counts of murder, aggravated malicious wounding, and multiple firearm offenses. He was arrested in Hampton on November 18, 2020. A jury later found Torrey R. Whitlow guilty of two counts of second-degree murder, malicious wounding, and related firearm charges. Does anyone have information about the Baileys, their sons, or witnessed events on Apple Avenue that afternoon?
