Roy Brady, 72, and his wife Sheila were found dead in their Virginia Beach home on Kellam Road after a welfare check in July 2019. The couple had lived in the house for more than three decades; neighbors described them as gentle, harmless, and unlikely to have been able to defend themselves. Roy was a veteran who served 23 years in the Marines and later the Navy and enjoyed fishing, hunting, and a sharp sense of humor.
Police investigation led to the couple’s 44-year-old son, Christopher Shawn Brady, who was taken into custody and charged with two counts of second-degree murder and two counts of using a firearm in the commission of a felony. Records say the killings occurred on a Friday and the bodies were not discovered until the following Monday. Neighbors reported a strained relationship between Christopher and his father, including frequent arguments.
Authorities say Christopher, a convicted felon who had his firearm rights restored in 2016, left the home after the killings with his teenage daughter, returned that evening to retrieve shell casings and stage the scene, disposed of a gun barrel from the Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel, and later confessed to police. He pleaded guilty in October 2021 and in March 2022 received the sentence called for by his plea agreement. Does anyone have information about the lead-up to July 2019 or the family’s interactions before that weekend?
