Michelle ’Missy’ Langer, 60, was killed in the mass shooting at the Virginia Beach Municipal Center on Friday, May 31, 2019. A long-time Virginia Beach resident originally from East Liverpool, Ohio, she had worked for 12 years as an administrative assistant in the city’s public utilities department and was remembered by family for her bright smile and love of life. She enjoyed the beach, followed the Michigan Wolverines and the Pittsburgh Steelers, and was a well-liked member of her community.
The attacker, identified as DeWayne Craddock, 40, an engineer and fellow city employee, sent a resignation email that day before entering Building 2 with two .45-caliber handguns and opening fire. Twelve people died in the assault, including Langer, and several others were wounded. Craddock was wounded in an exchange with police, taken into custody, given first aid by officers, and later died at a hospital; he was the sole suspect and investigators searched for a motive but reported no immediate explanation.
If anyone knew Missy, worked with her at public utilities, or has information about her final day at the municipal center, please share what you remember.
