Robert Thomas Bobby Williams, 72, was killed on Friday, May 31, 2019, in the mass shooting at the Virginia Beach Municipal Center. A long-time City of Virginia Beach employee, he had 41 years of service and was working as a Special Projects Coordinator in the Public Utilities department at the time of his death.

Williams was born in Norwalk, Ohio, served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War, graduated from Granby High School, and earned a bachelor’s degree from Virginia Wesleyan College in 1975. He was described as a devoted husband, father and grandfather.

The shooter was identified as DeWayne Craddock, a fellow city employee, who opened fire inside the municipal building and was killed in a shootout with police.
