On the evening of February 2, 2019, 32-year-old Eric Montequilla Barksdale was shot on the porch of a residence on Rivermont Heights Road in Martinsville, Virginia. Deputies found him with gunshot wounds; he was taken to SOVAH Health Martinsville and pronounced dead. A 911 call had alerted the Martinsville-Henry County center to the shooting.

Investigators say Barksdale had been in an argument with a 17-year-old male that escalated. The teenager shot Barksdale and fled on foot. The suspect, identified as Domineek Richardson, turned himself in to the Henry County Sheriff’s Office on February 5, 2019, and was charged with second-degree murder, use of a firearm during the commission of a felony, and reckless handling of a firearm. Richardson was held at the W.W. Moore, Jr. Juvenile Detention Home in Danville.

Barksdale was a father who operated a recording studio, described as a mentor to many in the local entertainment community. Is there anyone who knew Eric or who has information about the events that night?
