Heather Sue Matherly, 30, was found dead at her Danville, Virginia, home on September 23, 2018. Born May 18, 1988, she worked as a Certified Nursing Assistant at Sovah Health - Danville, attended Dan River Church and was a mother of three. The death was initially reported as unexpected; the medical examiner later ruled it a homicide from a gunshot wound.
The Pittsylvania County Sheriff’s Office and the Danville Police Department investigated. On September 27, 2018, 43-year-old Jason Scott Rigney was arrested at the Executive Inn Motel on West Main Street in Danville and charged with first-degree murder and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony. He was held in the Pittsylvania County Jail without bond and later tried; the prosecutor said Matherly was not just killed, she was tortured, and Rigney was convicted and sentenced to life plus three years.
If anyone knew Heather or has information about her death, please share what can help the case.
