Kirkman Rountree, 26, was shot dead in the early morning hours of June 30, 2018, in the Court Square area of Harrisonburg, Virginia. A second man was wounded in the same shooting and survived. Rountree, known for his interest in music and skateboarding, worked at Rocktown Kitchen and had attended James Madison University after graduating from King’s Fork High School in Suffolk.
The investigation led to arrests of two people from Broadway, Virginia. John Doljac was charged with first-degree murder in Rountree’s death, attempted murder of the other victim, and a weapons charge. Kara Blankenbaker was charged as an accessory, accused of driving the getaway vehicle. Doljac later pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and was scheduled for sentencing on April 24, 2020; Blankenbaker was indicted and faced trial.
Rountree is remembered by friends and family as a caring person whose laugh could light up a room. Does anyone have information about that night or memories of Kirkman to share?
