In late January 2018, deputies responding to a welfare check at a home on Tomey Court in Aldie, Virginia, found 32-year-old Rishi Manwani and his 65-year-old mother, Mala Manwani, dead of multiple gunshot wounds. Neighbors reported no obvious sign of forced entry, and the scene indicated a violent attack that claimed both lives.
Investigators quickly explored a possible connection between the killings and criminal activity at the residence. Rishi Manwani was reported to have been selling oxycodone from the home, and detectives focused on people who knew of the drugs and cash there. A friend said Rishi used drugs and that an older brother had died of a heroin overdose a few years earlier.
In March 2018 a Herndon man, Brian K. Welsh, was arrested and charged with first-degree murder in the killings; authorities cited .22-caliber casings at the scene said to match a pistol he owned. The charges were later dismissed in August after ballistics did not match that gun, and Welsh remained a person of interest as the probe continued.
Does anyone in the Aldie community have information about who might have known about drug activity at the Manwani home or about visitors there around January 29–31, 2018?
