Thanksgiving Day 2017 in Chester, Virginia, ended in a family massacre at a Dogwood Ridge Court home. Jeanett Gattis, 58, was shot and killed during an argument that erupted while the family played a board game. Her daughter, 30-year-old Candice Kunze, and Candice’s 36-year-old boyfriend, Andrew Buthorn, were also killed; Buthorn was shot after fleeing into the front yard and was found there, while Jeanett and Candice were found inside the house.

The homeowner, Jeanett’s husband Christopher Gattis, 58, was arrested at the scene on the porch. Reports say tensions had been building in the weeks before the killings and that Jeanett had been fearful enough of Christopher’s temper to ask a nephew to hide a gun. Cell phone video recorded by Candice captured part of the attack. Christopher Gattis, a youth pastor at Grace Lutheran Church, faces three counts of first-degree murder and related firearm charges and is being held without bond.

Did anyone in the area know the victims or have information about the days leading up to that Thanksgiving gathering?
