On November 22, 2017, 80-year-old Dillard Nolen was found inside his home on Dillard Lane in Rocky Mount, Virginia, dead of a gunshot wound. His death was discovered after deputies responding to a series of violent incidents in the area requested a welfare check at the residence.
Those earlier incidents involved 55-year-old John Robert Eames of Rocky Mount. Law enforcement reports say Eames abandoned his own vehicle, brandished a firearm and abducted someone in another car, and fired shots into occupied dwellings in the Glade Hill area of Franklin County. Deputies later located Eames; he suffered a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head and was hospitalized. After release from the hospital, he was arrested and initially charged with shooting into an occupied home, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and reckless handling of a firearm. He was being held without bond while the homicide investigation into Nolen’s death continued and additional charges were possible.
Does anyone have information about Nolen, his whereabouts on November 22, 2017, or contacts who might help the investigation?
