Carlos Lamont Lassiter was killed during a family gathering on a March evening in 2017 in Yorktown, Virginia. The 40-year-old, known as Scootman, big scoot dogg and c-los, was at his fiancée’s mother’s home on Walnut Drive for a cousin’s birthday when an argument broke out after Ryan Lyon arrived. The dispute concerned Lassiter’s role in disciplining the children he helped raise.

Witnesses say Ryan Lyon struck Lassiter in the head with a handgun; the weapon discharged once, sending a bullet into Lassiter’s chest. Those present initially noticed a forehead gash and did not realize he had been shot until he collapsed. Lassiter later died of the gunshot wound. Ryan Lyon allegedly gave the gun to his brother Laphonso Lyon before the two fled; Ryan later surrendered to police and was charged with second-degree murder and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, while Laphonso was charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. The case was certified to move to a grand jury and be transferred to a higher court for trial.

Does anyone have information about the night on Walnut Drive or about the relationships among those involved?
