Tyler Buchanan was 16 and a student at Graham High School when he was killed on January 6, 2017, after being shot the evening before at an apartment complex in Bluefield, Virginia. Described as selfless and outgoing, Tyler was taken to Roanoke Memorial Hospital and died of his injuries the next day.
Police say 28-year-old Calvin Dawayne Powers allegedly initiated an unwanted game of Russian roulette. According to statements, Powers first spun a revolver with one round and pointed it at his own head; it did not fire. He then spun the cylinder again, put the barrel against the back of Tyler’s head and pulled the trigger, and the weapon discharged. Powers was arrested and initially charged with aggravated malicious wounding and the use of a firearm in the commission of a felony; the Commonwealth’s Attorney said autopsy results were pending and additional charges were expected.
Who in Bluefield knew Tyler or has information about what happened that night?
