On the evening of December 22, 2016, 22-year-old Ethiopian-American Kedest Sileshi Simeneh was shot and killed in Burke, Virginia. Earlier that night in Springfield she had gone to the home of her boyfriend, 22-year-old Henok Yohannes, with several others to buy marijuana. A dispute over payment turned deadly when Yohannes Nessibu shot Henok in the back of the head inside the house. Nessibu then forced Kedest and the others to leave and drove them more than two miles to a residential neighborhood in Burke.
In the backyard of a Cordwood Court home, Kedest was shot; her body, with upper-body injuries, was found the next morning leaning against a tree. Nessibu fled the country shortly after the killings, traveling to Ethiopia, and was later taken into custody there and returned to the U.S. to face charges. Nurseries and friends remember Kedest as a young woman whose life ended abruptly; few other personal details are public. Does anyone have information about Kedest, where she spent her time, or what led to that December visit?
