Tarreece John Sampson, 24, was found unresponsive and pronounced dead after a gunshot wound to his upper body in the parking lot of the Cityside Huntington Metro Apartment complex in the 6000 block of Richmond Highway in Fairfax County, Virginia, in the early morning hours of May 20, 2016. He worked as an instructional aide at Fort Hunt Elementary School and hoped to become a special-education teacher.
Detectives believe Sampson unexpectedly encountered two people who were breaking into cars in the apartment parking lot and did not know his assailants. A sketch of a woman seen in the area was released early in the probe.
Two suspects from Washington, D.C., were later identified and taken into custody: Charles Benson, 24 at the time of his arrest on September 4, 2018, and TreSur Hawkins, 19 when charged with first-degree murder in January 2019; both were charged with first-degree murder. Did anyone who knew Tarreece or who was in that parking lot that night see or hear anything that could help clarify what happened?
