Johan De Leede, 83, was shot to death in his Lorton, Virginia, living room shortly after 1 a.m. on March 11, 2016. A gunman fired multiple rounds through a window from outside the residence; De Leede was found with gunshot wounds to his upper body, taken to a hospital, and pronounced dead. His wife was elsewhere in the house and initially mistook the gunfire for the television and later thought he had fallen until she noticed shattered glass and broken blinds.
Investigators found no clear motive: there were no reported domestic problems or ties to drug or gang activity, and detectives describe the attack as seemingly random. A neighbor reported seeing a dark-colored, full-sized pickup truck, possibly a Ford F-250, speeding away with its lights off that night. Police also learned De Leede had visited a West Marine store in Woodbridge the day before his death; detectives asked anyone who saw him at the store or traveling to and from his home to come forward. His family offered a $25,000 reward for information; no suspects or arrests have been announced.
Did anyone see a dark pickup truck in the River Drive area that night or notice Mr. De Leede at the West Marine in Woodbridge the day before he was killed?
