On the evening of January 11, 2016, 55-year-old Harshad Patel was working at the Marketplace #21 convenience store on Walmsley Boulevard in Chesterfield, Virginia. Three teenagers entered as he prepared to close; surveillance video captured the group. Trayvon M. Wilhite, then 19, produced a .25 caliber pistol and fired a single, fatal shot as Mr. Patel sought cover behind the counter. A customer discovered Mr. Patel gravely wounded and called for help; he was taken to a hospital and later died. His wife arrived as police were on scene.

Two days later Thomas L. Jennings III, then 18, surrendered and cooperated with investigators, identifying his two accomplices and agreeing to testify. That cooperation led to the arrests of Trayvon Wilhite and his 14-year-old brother Tyqise Wilhite. Court records show Trayvon Wilhite was sentenced to 40 years for the murder; Tyqise Wilhite received a 50-year suspended sentence conditioned on juvenile custody until his 21st birthday. In a plea deal acknowledging substantial cooperation, Jennings pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and was sentenced to 40 years with 27 years and one month suspended, leaving just under 13 years to serve.

Did anyone in the Chesterfield area see suspicious activity around the Marketplace #21 on January 11, 2016, or know more about the three youths involved?
