On the night of December 20, 2015, police responding to what was first reported as a single-vehicle crash on the 1400 block of Loren Crescent in Portsmouth, Virginia, found two people dead inside the wrecked car. Linda M. Lassiter, 48, and her longtime boyfriend, Wayne R. Davis, 49, had both sustained gunshot wounds to their upper bodies and were pronounced dead at the scene. Linda was a mother and grandmother who had planned to babysit her grandchildren that evening; her daughter described her as happy-go-lucky, caring and affectionate.
What began as a confusing crash scene quickly became a double homicide investigation. Detectives initially reported having no motive and no suspects, and the family publicly appealed for information that could lead to an arrest. Few concrete leads were released in the immediate aftermath, leaving many questions about how and why the shooting occurred.
Did anyone in the Portsmouth area see or hear anything unusual on the night of December 19–20, 2015, that could help explain what happened to Linda Lassiter and Wayne Davis?
