On October 26, 2015, 32-year-old Nickolas Nick Eugene Clavier of Chesterfield, Virginia, was killed by a gunshot wound to the head while driving with his four children. His nine-year-old daughter told investigators she saw a man in another car pull up alongside them on Hall Street Road and fire a gun. Initial reporting and early law enforcement consideration included the possibility of an accidental, self-inflicted shooting, a conclusion Nick’s widow, Melody Clavier, strongly disputed.
After more than two years of family pressure and additional testing, ballistics comparison showed the bullet recovered from Clavier did not match the gun found in his vehicle. In May 2018 the Chesterfield Police reclassified the death as a homicide. Investigators later identified a suspect in what they described as a road rage incident that day, naming Jerquel Chetum as the person believed to have fired the fatal shot. Chetum was killed in a Richmond nightclub roughly three months after Clavier’s death, and no charges were filed in the homicide.
Did anyone in the area on Hall Street Road that day see the other vehicle or the shooting?
