Danny Centeno-Miranda was 17 when he was shot and killed in Sterling, Virginia, in the early morning hours of September 4, 2015, as he walked to his school bus stop. He was struck at least twice, taken to a hospital, and later died of his injuries. Danny had emigrated from El Salvador in 2013 and worked evenings and weekends at a local restaurant.

Investigators treated the killing as gang-related rather than random. Authorities arrested three suspects within days: 17-year-old Jose Miguel Espinosa De Dios, alleged to be the shooter and an MS-13 member, was charged with second-degree murder and using a firearm in the commission of a felony; 20-year-old Henry Dominguez-Vasquez and 18-year-old Juan Aguirre-Zelaya were charged with accessory after the fact and unlawful possession of a firearm by a noncitizen. Prosecutors said Espinosa De Dios had carried out the killing on orders tied to gang disputes over alleged disrespect toward MS-13.

Danny’s family disputed that he was involved in gangs, saying he had fled El Salvador to escape that life and had received threats while working. Does anyone have information about Danny’s life in Sterling or what led to the confrontation near the bus stop?
