A December 2, 2014 gathering on Peregrine Street in Virginia Beach ended in the death of 41-year-old Mariano Mosely Lacerna. Lacerna was at home with 18-year-old Tyler King; the two had been drinking and talking when their attention turned to a handgun. King then picked up the firearm, aimed it at Lacerna, and pulled the trigger. Lacerna died at the scene.

King was taken into custody and told investigators he did not believe the gun was loaded when he pointed it at Lacerna. He was charged with involuntary manslaughter and reckless handling of a firearm, and later pleaded guilty to those charges. The case closes out as a legal conclusion to the shooting.
