Jonathan Raikes was shot and killed on the evening of October 17, 2014, in Sandston, Virginia, on what was his 19th birthday. The shooting occurred around 11 p.m. at the intersection of South Confederate Avenue and West Berry Street after a dispute at a gathering where alcohol was being consumed. Jonathan had a child with his girlfriend, Kayla Maybush.
Witnesses say the altercation was with Kayla’s father, Walter S. Maybush, also known as Steve. During the confrontation, Maybush shot Raikes in the face. Maybush reportedly returned to his porch and waited for police, and Henrico officers arrested him at the scene. He was charged with first-degree murder and held initially at Henrico Jail before being transferred to Pamunkey Regional Jail for his safety. Court records show a hearing was scheduled for December 2, 2014, and Maybush had prior charges including eluding police and assault.
Are there anyone who knew Jonathan or who was at the gathering and can share details about that night?
