Jesse Dakota Weston was 20 when he was killed on September 21, 2014, in Chesterfield County, Virginia. Friends remembered him as someone nicknamed Stonka whose energy stood out at gatherings. The death occurred shortly before dawn after a house party on the 8100 block of Hopkins Court turned violent. Witnesses said unwelcome people were asked to leave, an altercation spilled outside, and Jesse and at least one friend moved toward the chaos to separate combatants. A handgun was produced; witnesses described shots fired toward the crowd and one shot into the air. Jesse was struck in the forehead and was pronounced dead at the scene after police were dispatched at about 3:58 a.m. and arrived to find him wounded.

Police identified Mathew A. McCraw, of Dinwiddie, as the shooter and arrested him at his home, initially charging him with murder and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony. The murder charge was later amended to voluntary manslaughter, to which McCraw pleaded guilty; the separate firearm charge was later nolle prosequi. At sentencing, McCraw received a ten-year term with two years suspended, leaving eight years to serve, followed by 30 years of supervised probation. If anyone knew Jesse, attended that party, or has information about the events that night, please share what can help clarify what happened.
