On the night of September 14, 2013, a fight at the Eden Center on the 6700 block of Wilson Boulevard in Falls Church, Virginia, ended in gunfire that killed 35-year-old Phuoc Huu Nguyen. Police responded about 11:30 p.m. to reports of several people fighting and the sound of gunshots. Nguyen was found in the shopping center parking lot with a cut to his face and at least one fatal gunshot wound.

Fairfax and Arlington County officers assisted Falls Church police in securing the large crime scene. Investigators said witnesses described a prior altercation, but no suspects were identified in the immediate aftermath. In the weeks after the shooting authorities continued to appeal to the public for information; by late 2013 there were no reported arrests or named suspects and the investigation remained active.
