Milton Sweat was 60 when he was killed during a robbery in Virginia Beach on the evening of December 12, 2011. According to reports, Sweat was confronted outside the New Pointe Condominiums and shot in the back. A friend drove him to Sentara Leigh Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The Virginia Beach Police Department identified a suspect quickly and took an 18-year-old from Norfolk, Tarion Dequay Williams, into custody on charges including murder, two counts of use of a firearm, and two counts of armed robbery. Those charges were later withdrawn; authorities did not publicly detail the reasons. With no further arrests or other suspects reported, the investigation stalled and the case went cold.
