An argument between two groups of young men at the Virginia Beach Oceanfront on a summer night in 2011 ended with the death of Cordaro Daniel Simpkins, a 22-year-old aspiring boxer. Simpkins was with friends near 18th Street just before midnight on July 23, 2011, when a dispute broke out and one man produced a gun. That man, identified as 22-year-old Eric Levon Davis Jr. of Hampton, initially fired warning shots into the air and then fired into the crowd, striking Simpkins in the chest.
Davis and his companions fled, but a cell phone left at the scene was traced to a relative of Davis and led investigators to him. He was arrested and charged with murder. At trial a jury found Eric Levon Davis Jr. guilty of involuntary manslaughter and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony; the jury recommended a 10-year prison sentence, and Davis was formally sentenced on April 23, 2013.
Are there witnesses or anyone who was at the Oceanfront that night who can add details about what happened near 18th Street?
