Joann M. Holmes, 40, was shot and killed inside her Chesapeake, Virginia, home on the evening of Sunday, October 1, 2000. Officers were called to 1107 Tatemstown Road at about 10:30 p.m. after a report of a person being shot and found Holmes inside with a fatal gunshot wound.

Police say two masked people forced their way into the residence during the invasion and that the assailants shot Holmes before fleeing. The Chesapeake Police Department opened a homicide investigation but no arrests have been announced, and the case has since gone cold.
