Patricia L. Vaughan, 53, was shot four times during an armed robbery at Lawrence’s Grocery in Dolphin, Virginia, on August 21, 1998. Her husband, Lawrence T. Vaughan, who ran the store with her since 1981, was also shot twice and survived. The two assailants, Kevin Green and his 16-year-old nephew David Green, robbed the store and fled; Patricia died at the scene from her injuries and the grocery later closed.

Both Green and David Green returned to Virginia and were arrested; each confessed to involvement. Kevin Green was convicted in Patricia Vaughan’s murder and later sentenced to death. David Green received a 23-year prison term.
