In the spring of 1997, 23-year-old Lisa Yvonne Alexander Crider of Lynchburg, Virginia, was abducted, assaulted, and killed. A mother of a five-year-old boy, she was described by her mother as peace-loving and protective of others.
According to accounts, on the night of May 10 two men — Brandon Wayne Hedrick, 18, and Trevor Anthony Jones, then 19 or 20 — encountered Crider, convinced her boyfriend was a drug dealer, and persuaded her to go with them to Jones’s apartment. Hedrick allegedly robbed her of $50 at gunpoint, then Crider was handcuffed, gagged with duct tape, forced into a truck, and sexually assaulted as the men drove through the night. Fearing retaliation from her boyfriend, the men drove to a remote spot near the James River in Appomattox County. At daybreak on May 11 her body was found; Hedrick later confessed to shooting her in the face with a shotgun.
Both men were later arrested and charged in connection with the crimes. Does anyone have memories of Lisa or information about her life in Lynchburg that could add to her story?
