On the night of June 30, 1994, a robbery at the Witchduck Inn in Virginia Beach turned into a quadruple homicide. Four people were shot in the bar: owner Lam Van Son, 41; employees Karen S. Rounds, 31, and Wendel G. Parrish Jr., 32; and patron Abdelaziz Gren, 34. Gren, originally from Morocco and a long-time employee at his sister and brother-in-law’s restaurant The Pizza Chef Inn, was taken to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital and later died of his wounds.
Police arrested Michael Clagett and Denise Holsinger. Holsinger, a former bartender at the Witchduck Inn who had been fired, is reported to have planned the robbery as an act of revenge and to have emptied the cash register during the crime. Investigators say Clagett shot each victim in the head while Holsinger took about $400. Clagett later confessed to the killings and implicated Holsinger; Holsinger ultimately admitted she had been at the bar with him.
