On February 27, 1993, Mary Elizabeth Keller, 35, and her husband Morris C. Keller Jr. were killed after two men broke into their home in Cumberland, Virginia. The intruders—identified as Michael Wayne Williams and Jeffrey Alan Cruse—had intended to rob a market, found it closed, and instead entered the Kellers’ residence armed with a .357 caliber revolver. The house was ransacked; both victims were marched to a nearby wooded area, shot and killed, and the house was then set on fire. Mary Elizabeth Keller was also sexually assaulted by both intruders.

The investigation led to the arrest of Michael Wayne Williams; Jeffrey Alan Cruse testified against him. Williams was charged with multiple felonies including capital murder, rape, burglary, arson and robbery. In January 1994 a jury found Williams guilty on all charges related to the Kellers’ deaths and sentenced him to death for the capital murders. Cruse received a life sentence for his cooperation.

Did anyone in the Cumberland area know the Kellers or observe anything suspicious around their home in late February 1993?
