Two men were found shot to death outside a home on North Elizabeth Street in Angola early on a Sunday morning. One victim was identified as 23-year-old Francisco Javier Velazquez Martinez; the other was 21-year-old Fernando Reyes Fernandez, also of Angola.

Investigators quickly focused on a suspect, 19-year-old Bryar Wolfe of Fremont. Officers encountered Wolfe a few hours after the discovery on South Elizabeth Street; he displayed a handgun and exchanged gunfire with police, then fled on foot. A second shootout took place near West Felicity Street and South Wayne Street, during which Wolfe was hit and later pronounced dead at a local hospital. The Steuben County Coroner’s Office confirmed the identities of all three deceased.

Officers involved in the shootings were placed on administrative leave or reassigned pending an Indiana State Police investigation that will be forwarded to the Steuben County Prosecutor for review.
