On Sunday, July 17, 2022, a shooting in the Greenwood Park Mall food court in Greenwood, Indiana, left multiple people dead, including 37-year-old Rosa Mirian Rivera de Pineda. Rosa and her husband, Pedro Pineda, were at a table when a gunman opened fire; both sustained fatal gunshot wounds. Victor Gomez was also killed and two other bystanders were injured during the chaos.

Investigators say the shooter brought a Sig Sauer M400 rifle and large amounts of ammunition and had been preparing in a restroom for more than an hour before beginning the attack. An armed civilian bystander, Elisjsha Dicken, engaged the shooter and struck him multiple times, ending the rampage about 15 seconds after it began. The shooter was found dead at the scene; because he died there, no arrest or trial followed.

Authorities reported the shooter had a juvenile record and recent personal problems including unemployment and eviction, and that a damaged laptop and water-damaged phone were recovered. Officials declined to definitively label the attack a hate crime. If anyone knew Rosa or was at the mall that afternoon, please share what might help the investigation.
