On May 14, 2022, two shootings in South Bend, Indiana, were linked to the same confrontation. Officers first responded shortly after midnight to Lasalle Park Homes Apartments near Jefferson and Wellington, where a male was found shot. About 17 minutes earlier or later in the sequence, the driver involved, 32-year-old John Parnell Thomas, fled the scene with 25-year-old Annaliese Matson in his car; police later found Matson, a White woman, in the passenger seat on the 1100 block of Cedar Street with a fatal gunshot wound and she was pronounced dead at the scene.

Court documents describe an argument at Lasalle Park Homes between Thomas and 32-year-old Eric Johnson that escalated into an exchange of gunfire. Evidence indicated Thomas fired two shots and Johnson fired ten; Johnson was taken to a hospital and died of his injuries. Thomas was arrested and initially charged with murder and a firearm enhancement; the investigation concluded Matson was struck in the crossfire. Does anyone have information about Matson’s activities that night or saw either vehicle near Lasalle Park Homes or Cedar Street?
