Emanuel L. Fonville, 20, was shot and killed in a Brownsburg parking lot on the evening of May 3, 2021. He had arranged to meet two people near a Kroger construction site on North Green Street for what was purported to be a narcotics sale. Fonville was in his car with a female passenger when two men, later identified as 18-year-old Marques Deon Hardiman and 17-year-old Christian Edmon, approached. An altercation over a bag of marijuana escalated and Hardiman pulled a handgun and shot Fonville in the chest. He was taken to a local hospital and died of his injuries; the female passenger was not physically harmed.
Witness statements and scene evidence, including a license plate recorded by a bystander, led investigators to identify and arrest Hardiman and Edmon on May 6, 2021. Both were charged with murder and robbery resulting in serious bodily injury; Edmon, though 17, was charged as an adult. Text messages recovered during the investigation indicated the two had planned the robbery beforehand.
Anyone who saw the meeting or the silver four-door car that fled the scene is asked to come forward with information.
