William Dunn, 51, was found dead from a gunshot wound inside a home on College Hill Street in Paoli, Indiana, on the morning of Wednesday, October 21, 2020. Police were dispatched shortly before 8 a.m. after a report of a shooting; Sabrina Dunn, his 43-year-old ex-wife and the residence’s homeowner, called 911 and said she had shot William, claiming he’d entered her home armed with a large knife and that she acted in self-defense.
Investigators soon uncovered evidence that contradicted Sabrina Dunn’s account. Her live-in boyfriend told police Sabrina had earlier asked him where his gun was kept and said the knife Sabrina described belonged to her and had been in the house for days. Security camera footage from William’s property shows him walking toward Sabrina’s house at about 7:36 a.m. carrying only a flashlight, not a knife; he was on camera about twelve minutes before the 911 call. Sabrina was arrested and charged with murder; a jury later convicted her and sentenced her to 65 years. The Indiana Supreme Court, however, unanimously overturned that conviction on April 10, 2024, finding the jury instructions misleading and clearing the way for a new trial.
Did anyone in Paoli see William that morning or notice activity around the two houses on the shared property?
