On June 21, 2020, at about 3:15 a.m., 22-year-old Javion Bell was shot while with friends on East Virginia Street in Evansville, Indiana. As he and others were exiting a vehicle, occupants of another car opened fire; Bell was struck once in the torso and was taken to a hospital, where he died around 4:30 a.m. The Vanderburgh County Coroner ruled his death a homicide.
Police collected shell casings at the scene and interviewed witnesses. Investigators treated the incident as a targeted attack, but witnesses could not give a clear description of the suspect vehicle or its occupants, and key details leading to the shooter remained elusive. In the days and weeks afterward, officials asked the public for help, but no arrests were announced and the investigation remained open and active.
Friends and family remembered Bell as someone who lit up a room and valued his relationships. If anyone has information about what happened that night, please share tips with the Evansville Police Department.
