On the evening of June 20, 2020, 18-year-old Jayshawn Jamal Walker was found suffering from at least one gunshot wound at The Legend at Speedway Apartments in the 2200 block of Sumter Street in Speedway, Indiana. Officers responding to a 911 call around 10:30 p.m. pronounced him dead at the scene; the Marion County Coroner’s Office later confirmed cause of death as a gunshot wound.
Investigators determined the shooting was not random and believed Walker was specifically targeted. Their inquiry indicated he had been shot earlier on White Oaks Drive and, despite his injuries, made it back to his apartment on Sumter Street before succumbing to the wound. In the weeks after the killing, leads took investigators to San Bernardino, California, where a 20-year-old named Ruben Gonzalez Magallanes was arrested and charged with murder in connection with Walker’s death. The Speedway Police Department said the investigation remained ongoing and asked anyone with additional information to contact them.
Did anyone in the Speedway area know Jayshawn or see activity on White Oaks Drive or Sumter Street that night?
