Four-year-old Tripp Shaw died in January 2020 after an in-home firearm incident in Bloomington, Indiana. Tripp and his 36-year-old father, Tyler Shaw, were play-wrestling when a Glock semi-automatic that the father had tucked into the back of his pants became dislodged, fell onto the bed and discharged a single round. The bullet struck both father and son in the head. Tripp was airlifted to Riley Hospital for Children in Indianapolis and died four days later; his father was treated at a hospital and was expected to recover.
The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office investigated and sent the handgun to the state police laboratory to check for any mechanical defect. The case was to be reviewed by the Monroe County Prosecutor’s Office for potential charges such as reckless possession or neglect; no arrests or charges have been reported. What can anyone who knew Tripp or was present that day add about what happened?
