Annalysa McMillan was 19 when she was killed in Marion, Indiana, on the evening of November 26, 2019. She was driving with three passengers when a single gunshot came from the back seat. The bullet struck McMillan in the back, she lost control of the vehicle and it suffered a minor collision. She was taken to a local hospital and died from her injuries; the manner of death was ruled a homicide.
Investigators identified the person behind the rifle as 22-year-old Austin Mark Smith, who had been seated directly behind McMillan. Police reported that a .223 caliber AR-15 style rifle in Smith’s possession discharged, the bullet passed through the driver’s seat and fatally wounded McMillan. Smith was arrested and charged with reckless homicide and criminal recklessness while armed with a deadly weapon; he pleaded not guilty and a trial was set for June 2020.
Annalysa had recently graduated from Mississinewa High School and was training for a career in home healthcare, with an interest in helping elderly people and those with special needs. Does anyone have information about that November 26 drive or about Annalysa’s last hours?
